From the beginning of time music has been used to express emotion and to deal with tougher emotions. One band who has truly grasped the essence of music is Twenty One Pilots. While their music spans genres from emo, rap, EDM, and even a bit of reggae, their lyrics span topics as deep and touchy as suicide to as lighthearted and giddy as marriage.

Twenty One Pilots is an American music duo who come from Columbus, Ohio. Twenty-One Pilots was formed by lead vocalist Tyler Joseph with former members Nick Thomas and Chris Salih. Chris and Nick later left the band in 2011, and shortly after the drummer, Josh Dun joined. They reached fame with their forthcoming album Blurryface which produced the top ten single “Stressed Out.” After reaching fame, the band went on to receive 28 awards including a Grammy for the Best Pop Duo/Group Performance.

Twenty-One Pilots has made sure that they make every song unique and special in its own way, using the soft pop feel of House of Gold and the alternative rock flow of HeavyDirtySoul. Alongside this, they make sure that despite all their fame every song has a deeper meaning behind it. For example, “Car Radio” is all about tuning out the distracting sounds of life so as to think and work through your issues instead of hiding from them. “Stressed Out” sings about the transition from childhood to adulthood and how hard it is.

When it comes to artists, it is key to be able to balance diversity in sound as well as staying true to your music. All in all, Twenty One Pilots nails this. If you’re looking for a new artist to listen to, definitely make sure to give Twenty-One Pilots a try.
